Before you begin....

Have you already completed this prerequisite path?

If not, we recommend you complete this path, then come back here!

Do you wear a development hat? Do you help process donations and run fundraising campaigns for your organization? Then this Learning Path is for you! This path will help you navigate all the basic development functions you'll need to complete your daily tasks.

After you complete this Learning Path, you'll understand how to:

  • Enter and refund single and recurring Donations
  • Track Pledges and Grants
  • Send Donation Acknowledgment Letters and Emails
  • Use Campaigns

This Learning Path should take approximately one hour and forty-five minutes to complete.

1. Entering & Refunding Donations

Estimated time: 45 minutes

Donation entry is the bread and butter of your development operations... let's jump in!

1.1. Entering Single and Recurring Donations

Got a donation? Great! Whether it's cash, check, or a credit card, you'll need to know how to record that Donation in PatronManager.

Required for all organizations:

1.2. Editing Recurring Donations

Recurring Donations allow you to setup a regularly scheduled gift according your patrons' preferences - monthly, quarterly, or annually.

1.3. Refunding Donations

Did you accidentally enter a donation or need to refund for some other reason? You can do that from the Donation in PatronManager.

1.4. How Donors Enter Donations Online

In addition to you entering donations, you can also set up Donation Forms for your donors to donate online. These Donation Forms are made right in PatronManager.

2. Pledges and Grants

Estimated time: 40 minutes

Pledges and Grants are specific types of Donations you can track in PatronManager.

Are you setup for Pledges and/or Grants?

Check with your supervisor to see if you're all set up with Pledges and/or Grants in PatronManager before you complete this section.

2.1. Pledges

Track donation commitments and their paid installments with Pledges and Pledge Payments.

2.2. Grants

PatronManager can you help track Grants from application to award with the Grant and Grant Payment Record Types.

3. Acknowledgments

Estimated time: 45 minutes

Special delivery! Donation Acknowledgments are important to help cultivate your patron relationships.

3.1. Salutations and Acknowledgments

A good Acknowledgment letter or email starts with the right name on the envelope! You’ve got a few options for tracking preferred salutations and acknowledgment names in PatronManager.

3.2. Mail Merges

Use Mail Merge to quickly and easily create Acknowledgment letters and send them your patrons.

3.3. Email Acknowledgments

You can also acknowledge incoming gifts with an email, and you can set up automatic email acknowledgments for online donations.

4. Campaigns

Estimated time: 30 minutes

Campaigns have a lot of great functionality! You can organize and monitor your development campaigns, follow the success of a marketing campaign, track attendance to a donor event or gala, and send email marketing messages to your patrons.
