What are digital membership cards?

A beautiful digital membership card!

Digital membership cards are cards for your memberships that can be automatically or manually sent to your members.

Members can then pull up digital membership cards on their phone and have the option to add it to their Apple or Google wallet to present as needed when they arrive at your venue.

Digital Membership cards also include some handy information built into the card that you can set, such as the perks of their membership , a map to your venue, access to the membership page of your site, and more.

How do members use their digital membership cards?

When members receive their digital membership cards, they can add them to their mobile device's digital wallet, like Apple wallet or Google wallet. Alternatively, they can also just pull up the card in their phone's browser. If a member really wishes, they could even print their digital membership card out to have a hard copy!

Once members have their card, they can pull it up to present as needed at your venue (or to just show it off to their friends). This can be useful if, for example, you give a discount on concessions at your venue to members or if members receive free admission to an exhibit.

They'll also have access to the information, like perks of their membership, that you build into the card.

Hold the phone! There's a QR code on the digital membership card; what does that do?

Right now, nothing. We added the QR code so that when scanning functionality arrives, it'll start working right away. We want to hear from you what you want scanning a digital membership card to do! What would you like to have happen when you scan a member's card? Should it tell you whether their membership is valid or not? Pull up particular information about the member? Log an admission to your venue? Start a new ticket order for that member? Something else?

How do members receive digital membership cards?

Members receive their digital membership cards using customizable email templates that your team sets up.

Members can either receive their digital membership cards automatically when they purchase their membership or manually when your team sends them their card, depending on how you set the Digital Membership Card field on your Benefit Levels.

Alternatively, if you don't want some (or any) of your members to receive digital membership cards, you can set up your Benefit Levels to never send digital membership cards using the Digital Membership Card field and setting it to "None."

Because the Digital Membership Card field is set on each individual Benefit Level, you can customize which members receive digital membership cards and how.

For example, want all of your Gold level members to automatically receive cards, while Silver level members can receive them on-demand by requesting one from your team, and Bronze level members don't get cards? With the Digital Membership Card field on each Benefit Level this degree of customization is possible!

Note that digital membership cards are bound by Salesforce's Single Email Limit. They are also considered transactional emails, so digital membership cards will go out to and can be sent to patrons with any Email Status.

Warning:

Once you hit 5,000 total emails for the day, Digital Membership Card Email Templates will no longer work on that day - and you'll receive no warnings it's not working.

More importantly, ticket purchase and donation confirmation emails will no longer send, meaning you won't be able to process further transactions that day.

In general, if you sell more than ~2,000 or more Memberships in a single day, you may want to consider carefully before using digital membership cards with Automatic Delivery.

Are there ways to track digital membership cards?

Yes! Digital membership cards are tracked in a few different ways. You can track whether a digital membership card was sent automatically or manually, the status of the card, whether it was added to Apple or Google wallet, and when the card was sent to the member all from the Digital Membership Cards section on their Benefit record.

Additionally, using the built-in Digital Membership Cards to Email report, you can keep track of cards that couldn't be sent successfully, such as when an email address is missing or malformed.
