So, you've read about digital membership cards and want to get started. We're here to help you set up this feature and walk you through it step-by-step.
In this article, we'll go over:
- Some prerequisites to get started with digital membership cards
- How to set up digital membership card email templates
- Set up some organization-wide fields
- Turning on digital membership cards
- Sending digital membership cards manually (if selected or needed)
Let's get started!
Prerequisites for digital membership cards
Before you can take advantage of digital membership cards, make sure that you meet the following requirements:
- You're using Benefits to identify your members, either via memberships or by manually assigning Benefits
- Mobile tickets are enabled
- Automated Communications are set up
Once you've confirmed that you meet these requirements, move on to the first step!
1. Set up Digital Membership Card Email Templates
Before you can turn on digital membership cards, you'll need to create at least one Digital Membership Card Email Template to deliver the cards.
Hop over here to create and edit a Digital Membership Card Email Template.
When you create a Digital Membership Card Email Template, make sure to include the Benefit: Digital Card Link merge field! This will ensure that members receive their card in the email.
2. Set up organization-wide fields
There are a few fields for digital membership cards that apply to all of your members' cards. We'll need these to be set up before turning on the digital membership cards.
2.3. Scroll down and edit the digital membership card fields
Specifically, we'll edit these fields:
- Digital Membership Card Org Details: Details about your organization that will appear on all cards
- Digital Membership Card Info URL: Your member webpage, or any other URL you wish to share with all members
- Digital Membership Card Address: Your physical address for members; when tapped on a digital membership card, this opens the member's map app on their device to navigate to the address
3. Turn on digital membership cards on Benefit Levels
Now that you have the means to send digital membership cards, let's turn them on for each Benefit Level and add some details!
Remember that on each Benefit Level, you have three options for digital membership card delivery:
- Automatic Delivery: digital membership cards will be sent automatically to members with this Benefit Level
- Manual Delivery: you and your team can send digital membership cards manually from members' Benefit records with this Benefit Level
- None: no digital membership card can be or will be sent to members with this Benefit Level
By default, all Benefit Levels are set to "None" to prevent digital membership cards from going out to members before you're ready!
3.2. Click Benefit Level

3.6. Update the digital membership card fields
- Digital Membership Card: Select whether you'd like digital membership cards to be sent automatically, manually, or not at all for this Benefit Level
- Digital Membership Card Email Template: Select the Digital Membership Card Email Template
- Digital Membership Card Details: Enter whatever details for this Benefit Level you wish to display to members on their digital membership cards
- Save
When "Automatic Delivery" is selected for a Benefit Level, digital membership cards will send automatically moving forward. Existing members with previously purchased or created Benefits will not automatically receive digital membership cards.
To send existing members their digital membership cards, follow the steps below.
4. Manually send digital membership cards (if selected or needed)
If you opted to set the Digital Membership Card field on any Benefit Levels to "Manual Delivery," if you set Benefit Levels to "Automatic Delivery" and would like to send existing members their digital membership cards, or if any digital membership cards were unable to be sent for some reason, you may need to manually send out a digital membership card to your members with these steps.
These are also the steps to take if you need to resend a member's digital membership card to them!
4.1. From the Member's Contact, go to their Benefits from the Related List Quick Links
Don't see the Benefits Related List? Add it to your page layout!
If your Contact page looks drastically different than this, or if the changes you made to the page layout aren't saving, make sure you're taken the steps here.
4.2. Click into the Member's Benefit Record
In this example, we'll choose the Young Justice Benefit.
