You'll love mobile tickets: they're easy to set up and keep up to date, they help orders process faster since there's no more multi-page PDF file to generate, and you can even include mobile tickets in pre-show emails (and in exchange confirmation emails!) to make sure they're at your attendee's fingertips.

And of course mobile tickets are designed with your patrons and visitors first in mind. Mobile tickets allow your ticket holders to easily pull up their tickets on any device, add them to their Apple or Google Wallet for easy access, or print them if necessary. They can take a screenshot of a ticket and text it to their fellow attendee if they're arriving separately, and the tickets have a barcode that's optimized for scanning - no pinching or zooming required! Plus, mobile tickets are fully accessible for assistive devices like screen readers, ensuring a great experience for everyone.

In this article, we'll touch on:

Let's take a look!

Understand how patrons and visitors experience mobile tickets

We recommend exploring how mobile tickets work from your ticket buyers' perspective before you enable the feature, and sharing the document linked below with your staff so they're prepared to help your attendees use mobile tickets.

Enable mobile tickets

First things first: how do you turn on mobile tickets? It's quick and easy! You'll upload a mobile ticket logo, check a few boxes in Setup, add info to optional fields, and flip a switch when you're ready to go live.

Excited to get started? Follow the step by step instructions here and you'll be up and running in no time. Be sure to complete each step!

Keep your mobile tickets up to date

Mobile tickets come with a variety of optional fields to convey information to your patrons, from your organization policies to Event and Venue details. You can add info to new Events, and update fields when your policies or instructions (e.g. public transit details) change.

Include mobile tickets in automated pre-show emails

To include mobile tickets in your automated pre-show emails, just add this merge field to your pre-show email template:

[% TicketOrder__c.MobileTicketLink %]
Click to copy

Note that the button will only appear in automated pre-show emails if the buyer chose "Email" as their Delivery Method.

As an added bonus, all your various mobile ticket info fields are also available as merge fields for automated pre-show email templates, so you won't have to type the same details over and over!

Train your front of house staff on mobile tickets

Be sure to train your ticket takers, house managers, visitor services personnel, etc. so they're not surprised by mobile tickets. We recommend the following:

  • Show what the new tickets look like (the online ticket on a mobile device, the new printed version, and tickets in a mobile wallet). You can share this article, or even "sell" each staff member a comp ticket to a test event so they can experience it for themselves.
  • Highlight where to find important information. The online ticket includes the buyer name and order name at the top of the page, while tickets in a mobile wallet have three dots at the top right - tap there to access the "back" of the ticket with all those details.
  • Make sure your team understand the patron experience as outlined above, so that they can help patrons find their ticket link in emails and, if needed, walk a patron through adding a ticket to their digital wallet for the first time.

Report on mobile tickets

Would you like to report on the type of tickets you scan? As of the October 2023 release (if you scan tickets at the door), now you can!

Get an at-a-glance view of the kinds of tickets your patrons use by reporting on the "Entry Ticket Type" field on the Ticket Order Item. The possible values are:

  • Apple Wallet
  • Google Wallet
  • Online Ticket (this applies to both the online ticket displayed on a mobile device, or a printed paper copy of the online ticket)
  • Point-of-Sale (your BOCA tickets)
  • Print-at-Home (the legacy PDF ticket)
