How to Opt In a Patron Who Has Previously Opted Out of Your Email Lists: https://help.pm.leapevent.tech/a/1450299
We take a patron's decision to stop receiving marketing emails very seriously - and so do both of our email marketing partners, Emma and Mailchimp. That's why the process for re-opting in to an email marketing list is a bit more rigorous than opting in for the first time.
Whether you're using Emma or Mailchimp, your patron will need to fill out a short form to indicate that, yes, they really do want to start getting your marketing emails again. Below, we'll provide links for instructions specific to each system.
If you're using Emma:
If your patron has opted out of your marketing emails, they'll need to resubscribe themselves - you won't be able to do it for them.
They'll need to resubscribe from an old email, or, more likely, via your Emma Signup Form - different from your PatronSignup form. Then they'll reply to the email confirmation they receive immediately thereafter.
For detailed information: check out Emma's Opt-In an Unsubscribed Contact article.
If you're using Mailchimp:
If your patron has opted out of your marketing emails, they'll need to resubscribe themselves - you won't be able to do it for them.
They'll need to resubscribe from a Mailchimp Signup Form (unless you manually opted them out from inside Mailchimp, which is rare). Click here for more info from Mailchimp.
For detailed information: check out Mailchimp's article on resubscribing contacts. Also, see Beaufort12's article on some exceptions.
If you're using PatronChimp:
We now recommend Beaufort12's Mailchimp integration instead of PatronChimp, which also makes resubscribing patrons easier!
Mailchimp respects patrons' wishes when they opt out, and requires action on the patron's part to be opted back in. Resubscribing a patron is a two-step process:
- Update the "Email Status" on the patron's Contact record in PatronManager. This ensures that they won't be filtered out of your reports anymore, so that they can be added to Static Segments/Tags from PatronManager in future.
- The patron will also need to opt themselves back in to Mailchimp by filling out a Mailchimp signup form. You cannot do this for them (unless you manually opted them out from inside Mailchimp, which is rare). Click here for more info from Mailchimp.
