Good for:
Batch-editing or batch-entering data into PatronManager. If you're used to doing a lot of data manipulation in Excel, or about to undertake a big project where you are introducing new fields and need to populate them for your existing data, Conga Grid is a great tool that will save time on clicks and page loads when viewing and manipulating data in an intuitive and time-saving fashion.
How it works:
Grids are like list views on steroids, combining report-like filters and grouping levels with the user-friendly interface of a list view. Not only can you update field values inline, but you can also write a Chatter post, create a task, and even add records to a campaign. Conga Grid also supports conditional highlighting much like in Excel, allowing you to see at a glance if your data meets certain criteria. Grids can be embedded on a page layout to make related lists more actionable as well.
The Conga Grid Explorer tab lets you start to view data from any object in PatronManager in a grid format
You can add fields that are not displayed by default, and the grid will update in real time with the selected fields.
You can save your grid view to come back to it at a later date or share with colleagues too.
After you've taken a look at all of your data, you can add filters to drill down to the data that's most important to you.
Here we are adding a filter to Accounts to see only those who have made a donation in the current fiscal year.
You can take bulk actions on multiple records at once, either by checking off specific rows or by lassoing multiple records to select them.
One option for a bulk action is to assign a task for each of the resulting Accounts--in this case we are asking our Development department to research the sponsorship potential of each donor.
You can also bulk edit if you want to assign the same field value to all selected records, bulk chatter, as well as export the records to Excel (and more!).
You can also use filters to see what data you may be missing in your records.
Here we added a filter to show all Accounts that don't have a city listed. The resulting grid can be used as a starting point for a data cleanup project.
Like Excel, Conga Grid supports conditional highlighting on multiple fields, so you can see at a glance the data that's most important to you.
In this case, we are highlighting Donations over $1500 and also donations that are Pledge or otherwise not "Posted"
Yet another way to use a grid is when you're introducing a new field or way to categorize your data and you need to update a collection of existing records
Even though we are updating each record one by one, this is still much faster than doing it by going to each record with separate page loads.
