How to Add a Custom Donation Refund Method

You've always had the option to refund a Donation to cash, check, or the Payment Type that was originally used - but as of July 2019, you can also choose specific custom refund methods you'd like available for all Donations.

In this article, we'll show you how. First, we need to make sure the refund method is an available Payment Type, and then we'll add it as a new refund method. This should take approximately 10-20 minutes - let's get started!

1. Head over to Setup

2. Select "Object Manager", search for "Donation" in the quick find, and click on "Donation" in the list

3. Select "Fields & Relationships", search for "Payment" in the quick find, and click on "Payment Type" in the list

4. Scroll down to view the picklist values

If your desired value already exists in the list, great! Head to the next step.

If your desired value does not exist, go ahead and add it. Click here for tips on working with picklist values.

5. Go to Organization Settings

You have two options to get there!

Via PatronDonate Hub

Click Organization Settings

Via the App Launcher

Click the waffle to access the App Launcher, search for "Org" in the quick find, and click on "Organization Settings"

6. Click "Organization Settings" to open the page

If you don't see it, click the dropdown arrow next to "Recently Viewed" and select "All" first!

7. Click "Edit"

8. Select/highlight your desired refund method(s) in the "Available Third Party Refund Methods" box, and save!
