How to Add the 3% Offset Fee to Your Donation Forms: https://help.pm.leapevent.tech/a/1242136

It's great to get online donations from your patrons, but the ~3% credit card processing fee can really take a bite out of that donation. Why not ask your patrons to chip in an extra 3% on their donation to help you cover it?

Now you can! In this article, we'll show you how to add this field to a donation form you've already created. All told, you'll:

  1. Check to see if you've already created the field
  2. Create the fee offset field in Setup
  3. Create the corresponding Enhanced Form Field
  4. Add the field to your donation form
  5. Add the "total" field to your donation form

If this is your first time adding the field, it should take ~30 minutes; if you've used this field before, you can skip down here - it'll take about five minutes.

Let's go!

Are you making a donation form for a gala? Stop here!

We've got special instructions just for you!

1. Check to see if you've already created the field

We don't want to double up on any work we've already done.

Let's take a look

1.1. Click the app launcher, then search and click "Donation Forms"

1.2. Check to see if the Fee Offset Field already exists in the Enhanced Form Fields section

See a field called "Fee Offset?

2. Create the fee offset field in Setup

Before we can put the field on our donation forms, we need to build the field first.

Let's create the field

2.1. Head to Setup

2.2. Go to the Object Manager tab - search and select the Donation object

2.3. Go to the Fields & Relationships tab on the left, and click "New"

2.4. Choose Currency as your field type, and click "Next"

2.5. Fill out the field information:

  1. Field Label: Give your field a name, like "Fee Offset Amount"
  2. Length: Set to 16
  3. Decimal Places: Set to 2
  4. Field Name: Auto-populates based on the Field Label
  5. Description & Help Text: Briefly describe what the field will be used for
  6. Click "Next"

2.6. Leave this page as-is and click "Next"

2.7. Select all page layouts you use for online donations, and click "Save"

3. Create the corresponding Enhanced Form Field

Now that the field has been created on the Donation object, we need to make a home for it on our forms. This step will help your form do the 3% math and add it to the donation total.

Here's how:

3.2. In the Existing Enhanced Form Fields section, click "New"

3.3. Fill in the details:

  1. Name: Call this field "Fee Offset"
  2. Type: Select "Fee Offset Checkbox"
  3. Click "Save"

4. Add the field to your form

OK, now let's add it to the form so your patrons can use it! They'll be covering fees in no time.

Add it up

4.1. From the Donation Forms tab, click into your form

Don't have a form yet? Click here to learn to build one.

4.2. Scroll down to the Form Builder section and click New Field

4.3. Fill out the page as follows

  1. Field Name: select Fee Offset Amount
  2. Field Type: select Fee Offset
  3. Sort Order: make it something high, like 90
  4. Label: this is what will show up on your form next to a checkbox, so make a clear ask to your patron, like:
    1. I'd like to cover the transaction fees for my donation (adds 3%)
  5. Leave these three fields blank
  6. Click Save

4.4. It'll show up in the Donation Levels block

5. Add the "total" field to your form

This field is really important. Your patrons are adding a percentage onto their donation total, so they need to see what that total is going to be - without doing math in their heads.

Let's make it clear

5.1. Still on your donation form, click New Field in the form builder section

5.2. Fill out the page as follows

  1. Field Name: Amount
  2. Field Type: default
  3. Sort Order: make it high, like 100
  4. Label: Total
  5. Required: checked
  6. Default value: leave this blank
  7. Save it up

5.3. It'll show up in the Donation Levels section

You're done - congrats!
