There are several Dedication fields built into Donations in PatronManager that you can use. But what are these fields used for?

In this article, we'll dive into these Dedication fields to learn:

What are Dedication fields used for?

Dedication fields are most often used to track information about donations made by one individual, but with a dedication to another individual or entity.

For example, Dedication fields can be used:

  • In honor of an individual, like for someone's birthday
    • Example: Damien Wayne makes a donation in honor of Alfred Pennyworth for this birthday
  • In memory of the deceased, like for a recently deceased relative
    • Example: Dick Grayson makes a donation in memory of John and Mary Grayson
  • On behalf of an individual or organization, like for a local company where the owner is making the donation proper
    • Example: Bruce Wayne makes a donation on behalf of Wayne Enterprises

What Dedication fields are there?

There are eight built-in Dedication fields for Donations.

Dedication fields on a Donation
  1. Dedication Type: A picklist to decide what type of dedication this is with three options: in honor, in memory, and on behalf
  2. Dedication Honoree Name: Name of the individual, group, or organization the dedication is made for
  3. Dedication Personal Note: A note accompanying the dedication
  4. Dedication Acknowledgment Type: A picklist of how, if at all, the honoree or recipient should be notified of the donation with three options: None, Email, and Mail
  5. Dedication Recipient First Name: First name of the individual(s) the dedication is made for
  6. Dedication Recipient Last Name: Last name of the individual(s) the dedication is made for
  7. Dedication Recipient Address: Mailing address of the individual, group, or organization the dedication is made for
  8. Dedication Recipient Email Address: Email address of the individual, group, or organization the dedication is made for

Don't see these fields on your Donations? Make sure to add the ones you wish to the page layout!

How can we use Dedication fields?

You can use any or all of these eight Dedication fields at your organization! Which ones you use and make available will depend on your organization's needs.

For example, your organization may decide to only use Dedication Honoree Name and not Dedication Recipient First Name and Dedication Recipient Last Name (or vice versa).

In general, you can use these fields two different ways: internally and online.

Whatever way you use these fields, you'll always be able to report on them in Donation reports!

Dedication fields internally

Manually entering Dedication field information

Internally, the Dedication fields can be added to Donation page layouts for the Donation Record Types where you'd like to see them.

Then, when entering Donations internally, your Users can fill in these Dedication fields manually.

Dedication fields online

Dedication fields on Donation Form

Online, Dedication fields can be added to some or all of your Donation Forms to allow donors to dedicate their gifts to others.

Dedication fields as Hidden Fields on Donation Form

You can even add these Dedication fields as hidden fields with default values if you'd like them to be consistent across all Donations made via a specific form.

This can be useful if you set up a specific Donation Form for gifts made specifically to honor a Board President or Artistic Director ending their tenure.
