Sometimes you may want to adjust the fields that come up when you use an action, like the "New Donation" action or the "New Group Sale" action from a Contact.

You can add, remove, or rearrange which fields appear when you use an action by editing the Action Page Layout in Setup!

In this article, we'll show you how to edit the Action Page Layout. This should take 10-20 minutes.

Let's go!

1. Go to Setup

Go to Setup using the gear icon

2. Go to Object Manager

Go to the Object Manager tab

3. Use the Quick Find to find and select the object where your action lives

Find and select the object

In this example, we're going to update an action on the Contact object, but you can navigate to whatever object you need! Here are some examples:

  • Want to adjust the New Grant Payment, New Pledge Payment, or New Group Sale Payment actions? Head to the Donation object!
  • Looking to adjust the New Donation or New Pledge action from the Account? Head to the Account object!
  • Need to adjust the New Donation, New Group Sale, or New Pledge action from the Contact? Head to the Contact object!
Go to Buttons, Links, and Actions

5. Use the Quick Find to find and select the action you want to edit

Find and select the action

In this example, we want to update the New Group Sale action.

6. Click Edit Layout

7. Adjust the Action Page Layout

Action Page Layout

Much like with regular Page Layouts, drag and drop a field from the palette to the page to add it to the layout, like we're doing here with the custom field Group Name:

Drag and drop to add a field

Adding too many fields to the Action Page Layout can impact efficiency. Generally, we recommend a maximum of 8 fields on the Action Page Layout to keep things tidy!

You can also remove fields from the page by dragging and dropping the field from the page to the palette, like we're doing here with Opportunity Name:

Drag a field back to remove it

You can also drag and drop fields within the page to reorder or rearrange them.

8. Save your changes

Save

The next time you go to the action, you'll see your updated Action Page Layout!
