Lightning Transition: Compact and Page Layouts: https://help.pm.leapevent.tech/a/1770703

In this section of your Lightning Transition, you'll:

  • Set the Home Page layout
  • Adjust some settings set to optimize your page layouts
  • Set page layouts for your Accounts, Contacts, Donations, and Campaigns
  • Set compact layouts (to see your most important information easily)
  • Adjust any custom Profiles to take advantage of your changes

This should take about a half hour to 45 minutes to complete. Let's get started!

1. Assign Lightning page layout defaults

The Lightning Experience has a lot of visual customization options, so we've set up some useful, good-looking layouts for you.

Here's how to set the Home Page default:

1.1. Get to Setup via the gear in the upper right

1.2. Search for and click on Home

Yup, the Quick Find bar works in Lightning, too!

1.3. Click Set Default Page

1.4. Choose "PatronManager Home Page Default", click Next, then click Assign

Did you get an error message?

Keep closing the pop-up windows until they go away, then try clicking Assign again.

If you can't seem to get the Assign button to work, try these steps again back from step 1. If that doesn't work, submit a support request via the Community and we'll see what's going on.

1.5. Nice! Your Home Page is all good to go

2. Adjust Some Settings to Optimize Page Layouts

Before we set the default page layouts for our objects, we'll need to adjust some settings to make sure they work for us!

Time for some adjusting!

2.1. Go to Setup using the gear in the upper right

2.2. Search for and click on User Interface

You may need to scroll down to find it in the results.

2.3. Check Enable Enhanced Lists

2.4. Scroll down and click Save

2.5. Click Record Page Settings

2.6. Scroll down to Default Activities View and click Activity Timeline

2.7. Click Save

2.8. Search for and click Feed Tracking

2.9. Click Campaign

2.10. Check Enable Feed Tracking

2.11. Click Save

2.12. Great work! Now the stage is set for us to set up the page layouts

3. Set page layout defaults for your Accounts, Contacts, Donations, and Campaigns

Your records are probably looking a little weird right now - there's lots of sales-y terminology all over the place, and nothing is recognizable. Not to worry, we'll fix that right now!

Let's get to work

3.1. Get to Setup via the gear in the upper right

3.2. Search for and click on Lightning App Builder

3.3. Click "View" next to Account Default

3.4. Click Activation

3.5. Click Assign as Org Default

3.6. Select Desktop and phone, then click Next

3.7. Click Save

3.8. Using the Pages dropdown at the top, repeat steps 4-5 for three other objects

  1. Contacts
  2. Donations
  3. Campaigns

Remember that you're looking for the Default versions of these pages:

4. Assign Compact Layout defaults

Get those pop-ups ready

4.1. Go to Setup via the gear in the upper right corner

4.2. Click Object Manager, then click Account

4.3. Click Compact Layouts, then click Compact Layout Assignment

4.4. Click Edit Assignment

4.5. Next to Primary Compact Layout, choose "PMGR Default" in the drop-down, then Save

You can ignore the Record Type Overrides section.

4.6. Click Object Manager

4.7. Repeat steps 3-6 for three more objects:

  • Contacts
  • Donations
  • Campaigns

Choose the "PMGR Default [Object] Layout" for each Compact Layout Assignment.

5. Adjust any custom Profiles

If your organization uses custom Profiles, you'll need to give these users access to all of the amazing changes you just made. After all, if you make these changes and no one can use them, what was it all for?

Let's jump in!

5.1. Get to Setup using the gear icon

5.2. Search for and click Users

5.3. Change the list view to Active Users

5.4. Check for any custom Profiles and make note of them

You can ignore the following Profiles:

  • System Administrator
  • System Admin Clone
  • Box Office Manager
  • Box Office User
  • Development
  • Marketing Dept
  • PatronManager
  • Read Only
  • Chatter Free User
  • Chatter External User
  • Chatter Moderator User
  • Authenticated Website
  • Authenticated Website 2

Are all of the Profiles in your Active Users list listed above? Then you're done!

In the example above, we have a custom Profile named "Box Office Volunteer."

5.5. Click Profiles

5.6. Click into one of the Profiles you made note of in step 4

Our custom Profile was "Box Office Volunteer," so that's what we're clicking.

5.7. Click Edit

5.8. Scroll down to Administrative Permissions

Use ctrl+F to find "Administrative Permissions" on the page!

5.9. In Administrative Permissions, scroll down to Lightning Experience User and check it

5.10. Scroll back up and click Save

5.11. Repeat steps 6-10 for any other custom Profiles you made note of in step 4

5.12. Nice work! You're done here

You're done!
