For clients on a fee-based schedule, it's important to understand how the fees incurred by your organization (charged by Leap Event Technology) differ from the the per-ticket fees that your organization can charge to your patrons (Buyer Fees).

We'll cover:

At the end we'll have some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

You'll run into terms like "Event Instance" and "Ticket Order Item" in this article - if you're unfamiliar, refer to our Event Inventory glossary!

What are PM Fees?

For clients with a fee-based contract, PatronManager, or PM, Fees are the per-ticket fees that we charge your organization. They are entirely independent from the fees you choose to charge your patrons. Here's an example of a Custom Fee Schedule (we made this one up -- your organization's contract may differ from this schedule):

The sample fee structure above shows that PM Fee amounts are assessed on Single Ticket items paid by credit card, and Subscription items paid by cash, check, or credit card.

Buyer Fees

Buyer fees are fees that you charge on each ticket or subscription package. These fees are under your control - it's for you to decide how much to charge and on which items. You can charge specific fees based on:

  • Ticket Price Level
  • Payment method
  • Order origin (phone, online, etc.)
  • Delivery method
  • The venue the performance takes place in
  • And more!

Fees based on Price Level will be defined when you set up your Events. All other fees are set up in the Fee Setup Tab.

OK! Let's look at an example of a Buyer Fee structure:

The sample Buyer Fee structure above shows that the organization charges fees on every Adult and Senior/Student ticket and subscription regardless of payment method.

So why should I charge my patrons Buyer Fees?

The primary reason for charging Buyer Fees is to absorb some kind of cost in your organization - for example:

  • A cost you pay to the venue you perform in
  • The price of ticket stock
  • Historical preservation costs
  • Charges incurred by Leap Event Technology

What fees do my patrons see?

They will not see any PM Fees.

You can choose whether or not you want your patrons to see Buyer Fees alongside the ticket price when they purchase tickets online.

  • If you don't want the fees to be transparent to your patrons, you may choose to fold them into your ticket prices instead.
  • The benefit to keeping them separate is that you will be able to easily report on those fees as a separate source of revenue apart from your ticket prices. Either way, the decision lies with your organization!
