This is a historical article from our release notes in 2013.  For more up-to-date information about Mailchimp integration with PatronManager, check out our latest articles.

We're thrilled to announce the arrival of PatronChimp, our new app for integrating Mailchimp with PatronManager.

Why another e-mail system?

We started our company in 2001 by building PatronMail, and have bundled it in with PatronManager at no extra cost. However, many of you have asked for other email marketing options and today we’re providing a new one: Mailchimp. For the past few years, we’ve been watching Mailchimp with interest and respect, admiring their approach to education and customer service, and the fact that they've simply built a great product. That's why we've chosen to partner with them.

Starting today if you want to sign up for a standard Mailchimp account (see the link below), you can use it as your email marketing system with PatronManager. We’ve built a full integration that lets you use all of your box office, fundraising, and all other types of data to send smart, targeted email messages -- just like when you use PatronMail.

Why another e-mail system?

How does it work?

Similar to our PatronMail integration, PatronChimp allows you to create recipient lists for your email campaigns using reports in PatronManager. You'll click one button to export these reports to Mailchimp, then on the Mailchimp side, choose that report "segment" as your recipient list. You'll create, design, and send your campaigns from Mailchimp. Once a campaign is sent, it will appear in the PatronChimp tab in PatronManager, and the campaign stats will sync back to the campaign.

We also create Campaign Member records for all of the recipients so you can see their specific activity (clicks and opens) right from the Contact record.

Pricing

While the PatronChimp integration is free, Mailchimp's fee structure is based on list size. It's free if you have up to 2,000 email addresses on your list -- most of our clients have more than that, so instead you'll get to take advantage of Mailchimp's 15% discount for nonprofit organizations.

You can start a free trial right away using this special referral link that will identify you as a PatronManager customer.

For detailed pricing info, click here and use the cost calculator to see an estimated pre-discount price. Remember that our non-profit clients can receive a 15% discount on any plan you choose!

Opt-Outs? Bounces?

To accommodate the addition of Mailchimp as an email marketing solution for PatronManager, we're introducing a new field called "Email Status," which will track a patron's opt-in/out status for all of your email marketing. This means we're phasing out the "PatronMail Status" field you've used in the past. All values will be copied automatically from that field to the new one during the upgrade process.

This also means that the "All Contacts for PatronMail" report is going to disappear. It will be replaced by two reports: "Collected or Confirmed Opt-in Contacts," which includes everyone who is eligible to receive your campaigns, and "All Confirmed Opt-in Contacts," which includes just those Contacts that have definitively opted-in to receive your email marketing.
