Better Reporting About Subscription Sales

Starting later this fall, you're going to be able to run better, more accurate reports about your subscription sales.

Short explanation:

We've heard from clients (and experienced ourselves!) that running reports about "subscription fulfillment items" (that is, the actual tickets that make up a subscription package) can be difficult, confusing, and in a few cases just plain wrong. So we're fixing it.

Slightly longer explanation:

As of our next release, PatronManager will create Payment Transaction Items that represent Subscription Fulfillment Items, which means that from a reporting perspective, subscription tickets will work a lot more like regular single tickets. We'll also be representing the act of "distribution" or transfer of value from a subscription package to its component events. You'll still be able to easily report on sales of the subscription package itself, but now it'll be easier to create reports about the real dollar value of subscription tickets as well.

That basically means we've created a whole new data structure for tracking everything about subscriptions! But the basic process for selling and fulfilling a subscription isn't changing, so it's likely that you won't even notice most of this, except (in a good way) when running reports.

We're also redesigning the Daily Sales Report so that it can properly represent all of this.

So stay tuned for the exciting announcement about our next PatronManager release, coming later this fall!
