Converting a livestream to VOD

PatronManager's Virtual Event solution allows you to securely gate access to livestreams hosted on our platform, or sell tickets to separate Video On Demand Event Instances that patrons can watch when they choose.

But what if you want to convert a finished livestream into an on-demand recording, so that folks who may have arrived late or missed the livestream can catch up on the content later with their existing tickets?

Now you can!

Review the instructions carefully before using this feature, as the process is irreversible.

Recent VOD improvements

More and more clients are making use of the Virtual Event feature to increase their offerings and keep patrons engaged. These updates make it easier to upload large video files, and increase accessibility via captioning and subtitles.

Upload a video via URL

You can now upload a video file in one of two ways:

  • Option 1: upload directly from your computer
    • You'll need to wait on the page until your upload is complete. We recommend using a computer with stable, fast internet to help this process go smoothly.
  • Option 2: upload via URL
    • You'll need a direct URL to your video file, hosted on your website or a service like Dropbox.

Closed captioning for VOD

Video On Demand now supports closed captioning; you can upload one or more SRT or WebVTT files for closed caption and/or subtitle tracks.

PTS enhancements

Your Public Ticketing Site has a new customization option and a design improvement:

Alternative to the Discount page

If you use Discount Codes in PatronManager, your patrons have the opportunity to enter one during checkout on the PTS. This normally appears as a step in the checkout flow, which we'd recommend leaving as-is for organizations that use discounts extensively:

If you offer fewer discounts or want to reduce the steps to check out, you can now choose to make the discount option a field on the buyer info page instead:

Want to learn more? Here are instructions to adjust how your discount option appears on the PTS.

Improved image scaling in rich text fields

You can include images and video in rich text fields on the PTS, such as the sidebar content on your Event/Subscription/Membership landing pages and your Donation Landing Page at checkout. Previously, a bug sometimes prevented these assets from scaling correctly, leading to stretched or skewed images.

Now images and video you add to these fields will automatically scale to fit the available space.

Bug fixes

With each release, we tidy up bits of unexpected behavior and make incremental improvements to PatronManager.

Fixed issue with regenerating recurring donations

Normally, recurring credit card donations generate a new batch of installments each year (up to the End Date if specified). There was a bug that prevented the system from generating new installments if the user that created the original recurring donation was no longer active.

This has been fixed; PatronManager now associates all new batches of recurring donation installments with your Donation Administrator. Be sure to keep that user assignment up to date!

That's all for now!
