Barcode Scanning Updates (September 2016): https://help.pm.leapevent.tech/a/624031

This article is old!  Wouldn't you rather read something... fresher?

There may be outdated information or suggestions in this article that made sense at the time of the release, but no longer.  For the most up-to-date information about this topic, use a keyword in the search bar above.  If you're looking for more current release notes, you can find those here.

Entry Notes

To make your patrons feel more well-known, have you ever wished that ushers scanning tickets at the door could know right away that the ticket they just scanned is for a Major Donor or a Board Member? Using the new Entry Note feature, they'll be able to do just that.

If you scan tickets, you'll now see a new field called "Entry Note" on every Ticket Order. It's a picklist that comes preloaded with a few default values to choose from, such as VIP, Major Donor, and Accessible Seating. The one that you select will appear on the screen of the Android device when tickets from that order are scanned. Best of all, because it's a PatronManager picklist, you can customize the values as you'd like.

Entry Notes

Communicating to your ushers that Harry is a VIP and Hermione is a Major Donor will help them be more thoughtful in their interactions and improve the overall experience for your most important patrons and patrons who need extra assistance.

To use this feature, navigate to any Ticket Order. Simply select a value in the Entry Note field, and your barcode scanning devices will take care of the rest. This is a manual process now, and we are considering making it more automatic in the future based on your feedback.

PatronTicket Barcode Scanner App Version and Updates

Did you know you can turn on automatic updates for the PatronTicket Barcode Scanner app? This is the most efficient way to make sure you're always getting the latest bug fixes and improvements. As of today, your app version should be at least 27.0.

To learn how to enable auto-updates, follow these instructions.

Get Your Devices Up-to-Date!

An important deadline approaches for barcode scanning: Android devices running any Android OS version older than 4.4 ("KitKat") will stop working for scanning after February 2017. If you are running a version older than 4.4, you may need to replace your Android device.

You can check the version your device is on by navigating to the Settings app on the device itself. Select the "About phone" option and look for the number below "Android version". If it's anything lower than 4.4, you'll need to find out if there's an update available for your phone by choosing the "System updates" option. If you aren't running Android 4.4 or higher and there's no update available, you will need to buy new devices. Consult the Barcode Scanning Devices Buyer's Guide for recommendations.
